Every app wants your attention, and by default most of them get it. Notifications are not inherently bad — a message from a friend or a calendar alert earns the interruption. But shopping pushes, news bursts, and game nags do not. The aim of notification management is not to silence everything; it is to make interruptions earned, so the phone serves you instead of the apps.

One: The Right Default Is "Off"

The healthiest state is "off by default, on by exception," not the reverse. Most people start from "on by default" because that is how apps ship, then wonder why they feel tugged all day. Flip the model: assume a notification should be off unless you decide otherwise.

Two: Android — Where to Set It

Android gathers controls in Settings → Notifications → App notifications (or per-app via Settings → Apps → choose app → Notifications). There you can:
